The Context.
In South Africa, every stage of load shedding represents approximately 1000MW taken off the grid. So stage 6 is conservatively 20% of all the electricity that is generated. This is a very broad, somewhere near the ball-park estimate. If the average suburban household uses 24KWh per day or roughly 1KW of energy per hour, one can understand the impact of removing 6000MW off the grid. Where does that leave the consumer? Replacing what you lose from the utility can be very costly, so sufficient time needs to be taken to plan properly or the results might end up being below expectation.
